West Seattle Art Walk

Engrid Hooper (and much more!) at Capers

December 10, 2015

Tonight at West Seattle Art Walk, Capers will be featuring the work of Engrid Hooper, and offering several different opportunities to spread the holiday cheer and give back to those in need in our community.

Artist Biography:

Engrid Hooper began painting while growing up in Santa Cruz, and later received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. Most recently she has studied with Jennifer Carrasco. Engrid has called West Seattle home since 1992 where she lives with her husband and daughter, and has her art studio.

When not in her studio, Engrid is a flight attendant. Her dark, early commutes to the airport have served as a source of inspiration; there is a mystery in the day’s first hours. Morning walks in Lincoln Park have also inspired much of her painting. She feels that her best subjects come from the simple beauty of everyday life.
Engrid works in both watercolor and acrylics. She has said that watercolors are her favorite medium, despite the fact that they often misbehave. There is a vitality and movement in watercolor that Engrid loves and appreciates. Most quiet pre-dawn hours are spent in her studio–a ritual without which her day is incomplete.

Here’s a little more about this special Art Walk event from Capers:

“The grey days of winter are upon up, but the sun always shines at Capers! Come join us once again in greeting Engrid Hooper. Engrid captures the everyday beauty of our wet Seattle winters…Has she happened to paint your neighborhood?

Don’t forget The Hickman House Giving Tree. Hickman House provides a safe place and sufficient time after emergency housing for domestic violence survivors to begin the healing process and gather resources toward becoming self sufficient. Can you help?”

Santa is also going to be at Capers on Art Walk Thursday from 6-8pm. Bring your own camera, and take a picture with him! Santa will be accepting cash and non-perishable donations for the West Seattle Food Bank. Help him to bring the holiday spirit to families in need.

Finally, Chief Sealth International High School will be selling their West Seattle 2016 Wildlife calendars at Capers during Art Walk. All calendar proceeds benefit environmental studies programs at Chief Sealth. Mark Wangerin, the calendar photographer, will be at hand to answer questions and provide autographs.

Special Deals:

During Art Walk help out with one of the charitable causes above, and also get a little something for yourself or those on your holiday shopping list. From 6-9pm, spend $30 and receive a free West Seattle mug!
