For the last several months our own Frances Smersh and local encaustic painter / good friend Stephanie Hargrave have been working together on a series of mixed media paintings. We will host an opening reception this Thursday night, October 13 from 6 to 9pm: Frances and Stephanie will be there to show their pieces and talk about their collaboration.

Twilight

Opening Reception – Thursday, October 13th 6 to 9pm RSVP
We react to the society that envelops us; We wage battle every day against oppression and privilege. When our world refuses to listen and won’t protect us, we ignite the power within ourselves. We summon our inner witches and scorch obstacles with our monstrous feminine fire power.
From where do we divine this power? What shields us?
HEX and The Monstrous Feminine examines the mystical and occult tools available in contemporary art and adornment.

Wallflower

This month we’re featuring brand new works by Christopher Balder. View his exploration as he used pigment and water, like warp and weft of fabric.

His work is at once painterly and textural. His brushstrokes create the visual grain of the fabric.
Art, paint and fiber lovers of all kinds will enjoy this exhibit. Join us at the opening on Oct 13!

My tools of the trade are sharp scissors, a variety of glues, and old magazines and catalogs. Some pieces also have acrylic paint in the background. The finished pieces are coated with acrylic medium for color preservation.
