Astrologer, author and artist Frederick Woodruff lives on Vashon Island. His latest series of paintings are a nod towards abstract expressionism from the late 1950s. Woodruff notes:
When I started as an artist, back in the 80s, studying art history and then painting and showing work in Honolulu, that last phase of abstract expressionism, right before Pop Art obliterated the landscape, had me spellbound. I studied it repeatedly. Paintings from that time tunnel transmit a language that’s in secret code. And I enjoy composing from that same lexicon.
