Brooke Borcherding at Chaco Canyon

Brooke’s art practice currently consists of working on an ongoing body of plein-air oil paintings (executed on site) that she uses to inform her larger studio pieces. With a mixture of both the overlooked urban spaces and the rural picturesque landscape, these scenes are inspired by her affinity for strong linear compositions, images that recede into the distance, and a wonder for what lies beyond.

Brooke is a prolific artist who is constantly captivated by her immediate surroundings and first hand experiences that provoke in her an insatiable desire to capture them and turn them into paintings. She believes that beauty is something that we shouldn’t neglect in our Postmodern time, which is why she has chosen to stay within the traditional realm of representational painting; it will never lose its ability to imitate, satisfy, and illuminate for both the viewer and creator.

Although earning a BFA from the University of Oregon in 2010, she is largely self taught when it comes to painting the landscape from life and uses nature as her guide in a visual dialogue of observing and responding. Brooke actively participates in regional plein air paint-outs and competitions and juried shows. Originally from Southern California, she spent 7 years in Oregon and now resides in Seattle, WA.

Chaco Canyon is located at 3770 SW Alaska St.
