The fusion of music and art colliding into a beautiful symphony has bred the notorious painting style of artist Casey Brookbush. He was born into a family with a father whose blood coursed with the same artistic passion, and was known for painting his western type scenes and classic cars. The need to discover and develop his own creativity led Casey into the music industry here in the Northwest where he was mostly known as a founding member and drummer for “The Oswald Effect”. His artistic direction had also taken him to a full time career working in the environmental graphics industry as a project manager, and most currently, an account executive for a large Seattle firm, where you can see his elaborate work throughout the city of Seattle and around the globe.
After spending ten plus years as a musician, he left the band to pursue his passion of painting, and the art world would forever be changed. Casey notes, “Having been a part of the music scene for years, painting is another way to share my connection to and love for music. It’s essentially therapy. I come home from work, crank up the rock and pull out my brushes”. He moves with fervor from one canvas to the next as his artistic impulses cannot be contained to just one painting, but more like 10 pieces simultaneously. Although his methods may seem mechanical in the way his creativity unfolds, the final outcome is nothing less than awe-striking. His affinity with the subject matter gives him the uncanny ability to preserve the images on canvas as they come to mind and brought to life. Casey notes this about his style and flow, “I start backwards with black, then build up light, which is opposite than most painters”. The synergy of music and paint working together inspires some of the most extraordinary, bold, iconic, mesmerizing and evocative art.
It’s easy to gaze upon one of his finished pieces and get lost in the infinite details of his craft. His emphasis on every fine line, wrinkle, flaw and play of light are all significant and immortalized beautifully on canvas. Each unique piece breathes the essence of the subject matter, which in this case are inspired by musicians and celebrities alike. Casey flawlessly captures their true spirit, and some of their most memorable moments with effortless brush strokes and vibrant colors that bring life, expression and movement to his portraits. His successful career as one of the most original, yet remarkable artists of his time is a true testament to his talents, and his interpretation is a harmonious blend of music, bewitching beauty, mystery and wonder.
