Jan Martindale:
As co-owner of West Seattle Cellars, one of my jobs is to find new artists each month to show their work for Art Walk. This month I get to fill that role myself.
In many ways wine is all about travel: it can transport us anywhere in the world just through flavors and aromas. And when we’re lucky, we can sometimes visit those places ourselves. But our travels are not always about wine. In January I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Myanmar (Burma) for two weeks with my sister. And although they do make wine there, our focus was on the people, the culture, the arts, and just getting to know this country which, in Rudyard Kipling’s words, “is quite unlike any place you know about.” Of course, I took lots of photos and for this month’s Art Walk, I will be exhibiting a small selection that reflects some of my favorite impressions and encounters. I hope you’ll enjoy them.
On Art Walk night this week, our weekly free tasting will feature wines from France’s Loire region, presented by Joelle Hand of Cavatappi Distribuzione. Come by and be transported to both France and Myanmar this Thursday, March 13, from 5:30 to 9:00.
West Seattle Cellars is located at 6026 California Ave. SW.
