Tribal Immigrant
Alexander Riding is descendent of Native Tribes and Russian, Jewish, African, English, Polish and Chinese Immigrants who worked the railroads and the forests of the greater Pacific Northwest. The liberal interbreeding of his forebears caused him to be a really prototypical American: to belong to a lot of cultures, or to none.
Born and raised in the shadow of the Olympic mountains, his work is an attempt at reconciliation and preservation … of mysteries and contradictions of Heritage, Myth, Ritual, and Nature. Not to solve them, just to see them, to sit with them.
