I am Peggy Polynice. The art I create is colorful and abstract using mediums of canvas paper and wood. The type of paint I use for the abstract paintings are acrylic paints. I also use pen and color pencil on paper. I draw the shapes and lines with pen. And I then paint the spaces with acrylic. For portraits and still life I use charcoal and pencil on paper while erasing objects out for contrast. To add depth I use contrast of light in the picture, in addition to the negatives in objects to draw them.
So why did I decide to become an artist?
I was born and raised in New York. Art was introduced to me by my mother at the age of five. She brought me a sketch pad and crayons, and sat me down and made me draw what I was feeling every day after school. I’ve been in love with art since that time in my life. I was shy but art made it easy to talk to people and became my favorite class. I went to Nassau College where I had some difficulty figuring out what I wanted to major in, because I wasn’t doing what I loved. One day after having a bad day I sat down and painted an abstract piece. I cried after I finished the piece because I finally realized that I am the happiest when I am doing art.
