Opening Event – Thursday, March 8th, 6 to 9pm

Uyen Tran-Gjerde is a figurative painter who has always held a fascination for abstract art. She uses both color and shape to convey a sense of dimension, depth and meaning. Her primary focus continues to be the figure as she is most interested in the human condition — the psyche, what’s hidden beneath the surface. She creates a world where dream and reality converge. Her art expresses a sense of joy, tranquility, and mystery.

Virago Gallery: “[S]HEROES 3: The Bootlegs” Jordan Christianson and Mariel Andrade

Exhibit Runs March 4th – March 31st 2018

[S]HEROES 3: The Bootlegs is the third installment of Jordan Christianson’s wearable art in celebration of the women who have musically inspired him. Each handbag is individually designed and handmade to invoke the spirit of these trailblazing women who have influenced Christianson, and changed history. This collection includes new pieces, reissues of past favorites, and an anthology of past collections, [S]HEROES: Side’s A and B.

He is also pleased to be collaborating, again, with Mariel Andrade who’s hand-painted jackets are the perfect compliment to this thoughtful collection.

Jordan Christianson is a Pacific Northwest native and Couturier to its unique arts and performance community. He, and his award-winning creations, have been featured internationally in museums, galleries, hotels and on stage, page, and screen.

Mariel Andrade is a Seattle based painter who’s work is inspired by surrealism, nostalgia, romanticism, humor, and strangers in old photographs. Fascinated by capturing the emotion & personality of each individual, imagining what their story could have been; are the key components to her work. With her art, Mariel seeks to evoke a memory, one’s laughter, and the enigma within the viewer.

The photos tell their stories, and Lupe tells the stories of how these pictures were made.”

Shae grew up in an artistic family and started drawing at an early age, but didn’t start painting until about 4 years ago. She became part owner of a “paint and sip” studio and fell in love with it instantly. Creating happy whimsical paintings has helped her to overcome social anxiety and to find peace. She says “Life is stressful, so when you find things that makes you happy, grasp onto them with both hands. Or in my case, grasp onto that paint brush and pallet with both hands!”
