Art of Music 2022

The Art of Music returns to West Seattle beginning in June 2022!

Art of Music is back with a series of free musical performances to enhance our much-loved Second Thursday Art Walk Evenings thanks to the dedicated coordination and planning of volunteer John Redenbaugh

This year we are delighted to announce additional performances in the Alaska Junction from June through December, and in the Admiral Junction/greater Admiral neighborhood from June through December of 2022.  Musicians will perform from 6-7:45 pm.

 **Additional information to follow as we update our schedule with new artists and venues so stay tuned!**

The Art of Music 2022 Line Up   

June 9 – Americana/folk/rock artist Sue Quigley @ KeyBank in the Alaska Junction. With her extensive touring background including local solo shows at the Showbox, Tractor Tavern, and The Crocodile as well as the headliner for the half-time show for Seattle Storm, Sue is a performer not to miss. June 9 – PNW singer-songwriter Paul Gerard @ West Seattle Grounds. Paul’s smooth vocals bring to life the PNW landscape and evoke a deep connection between nature and music. “Paul Gerard’s songs are filled with perspective and thought about protecting endangered species and raising awareness about the world that exists around us.”K. July 14 (Summerfest Eve) – Master Musician and Balafola player from Guinea, Naby Camera @ Keybank. A two-time recipient of the Juno Award for Best Global Album and a principal soloist for the national ensemble in Guinea, Naby has toured the world playing festival stages for the past three decades. July 14 (Summerfest Eve) – Classical and contemporary pedal harp performer Alyvia Miller @ Welcome Road Winery. Since graduating with a double major in harp performance and international economics, Alyvia has gained 14 years of experience traveling the world and exploring music from other cultures. September 8Catchy melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and soulful delivery: Trevor Ras @ KeyBank. Funky beats and campfire sing-a-longs land Trevor’s music between Zac Brown, Van Morrison, and James Taylor. Drawing inspiration from sailing the islands of Puget Sound and the Gulf Islands, he’s come to view life as a seaborne adventure.  Where the musician meets the sea is where his 3rd solo album, Life at Sea was born.  Click here for Trevor Ras’ flyer.

September 8 –  With a blend of rock, pop, country, blues, and soft jazz, Taylor John HardinWEND Jewelry has you covered! If it can be played on the guitar, Taylor’s already started learning it. Taylor’s side gigs include Twitch Streamer, Music Teacher, Host of BandHouse Podcast, and tons of other music projects. October 13 New Age Flamenco @ Verity Credit Union will entertain with music that reflects Latin, and Mediterranean folk with European roots, jazz, and a Gypsy soul….all blended with the infectious rhythms of today’s music. Formed in 1998 by bass player Oleg Ruvinov, the band has extensive touring experience having played at festivals, and for large audiences at venues such as Benaroya Hall. October 13 – Hot Club Jazz quartet Byron Street Swing Band @ Antico Soprano’s Pizza & Pasta Restaurant. Reminiscent of the early French swing style, Django Reinhardt, and other Hot Club Jazz masters of today, the group officially formed in 2018 to bring Jazz Manouche classics to audiences in the Seattle area and beyond. November 10 – Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Sarah Brunner @ West Seattle Grounds. Having played 1,000 shows between 2016 and 2021, and covering everything from Johnny Cash to Sheryl Crow to The Weeknd, Sarah uses rhythm guitar as much as a vocal melody to define a song. Her band The Hipocrats is recording their debut EP due June 2021. View her music video for Caravan here. November 10 – Prolific singer/songwriter and self-taught guitarist Kristen Marlo @ John L. Scott Real Estate. Her broad appeal is reflected in the eclectic list of internationally known American artists she’s opened for, including Sara Bareilles, Joshua Radin, Todd Snider, country artist Eric Church, and others. Kristin is a US Air Force Veteran and her inspiration comes from her passion for new experiences and exploring the full range of human emotion. November 10 – Genre-blender extraordinaire Joshua Dennis at the Beveridge Place Pub. Boasting an early start, Joshua has been writing and performing since he was 16 years old. Over the years he has performed as a solo artist and band frontman for Westerly and Modern Relics. Taking cues from folk to country and pop to soul – Joshua’s songs seem at once familiar and new. He is featured on many compilations and even on TV, and has opened for acts such as Brandi Carlile, Jackie Greene, and Sister Hazel. December 8 – Explorative singer/songwriter Katrina Kope Great American Diner & Bar.  With 8 albums under her belt, Katrina has garnered massive respect among peers for her voice and approach to songwriting. She certainly has no fear of exploring new genres and material ranging from electronica, funk, reggae, trip-hop, R&B, and vocal improvisation. December 8 –  Prolific Brazilian guitarist Marco de Carvalho at Zeeks Pizza in the Morgan Junction. Playing from his extensive repertoire of over 30 years of music from Rio de Janeiro as well as his own arrangments, Marco has performed in clubs, universities, and festivals throughout Brazil, the USA, and Europe. He was recently awarded the opportunity to perform at the Seattle Center during 2022/2023 by Artists at the Center. Local past performance venues include Jazz Vespers, Tula’s Restaurant and Jazz Club, Bellevue Jazz Festival, Teatro Zinzani, and the Northwest Guitar Festival. December 8 –  Celtic fiddler Susan Burke at The Nook in the Admiral Junction. As an anchor of traditional Celtic dance music in the PNW, Susan is known for her fiery and swinging Irish, Scots, and Cape Breton music. It will be sure to get your toes tapping! She often appears with several Northwest bands: Red Crow, The Home Rulers, The Yes Bees, Making Time, and others. Susan has been a fiddle tutor at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Dusty Strings, and many private and festival workshops. Susan’s debut solo recording,  Journey Home features traditional tunes of Scotland, Cape Breton, and Ireland.  Click here for Susan Burke’s flyer


Music can evoke passion, emotion, and joy. The Art of Music provides an opportunity for aspiring musicians to combine the appreciation of visual arts with the appreciation of musical expression. This special event, presented by the West Seattle Junction Association, was created to complement the Art Walk for the benefit of ALL Art Lovers. 


Invitation to Apply as a Musician

The West Seattle Junction Association plans to present several performances by musicians in the heart of the West Seattle Junction and in the greater Admiral neighborhood to take place during the Junction’s Second Thursday Art Walks.

This Call for Musicians is an invitation to apply to be considered for performing Art of Music from 6-7:45 pm (with one 15-minute break at the midpoint). Applications will be accepted until performers are hired for all the 2022 events; the earlier your application, the more events for which you can be considered. 

Art of Music is a presentation in conjunction with the West Seattle Junction Association.
