Izaya Colson INDOORS SHOW + RECEPTION 5pm – 8pm
Visit Lily’s not just for their wonderful cuisine but to see their large wall mural depicting the city of Guazapa where the owner, Lily, grew up. Below is the description of the art murals:
The inspiration for this painting was to replicate a peaceful, small city in El Salvador, called “GUAZAPA”. Lily, owner of “LILY’S SALVADOREAN RESTAURANT”, was raised in Guazapa before moving to USA in 2004 and then to Seattle in 2007. One of the first and most important things to notice is the woman in the lead. She is wearing a blue and white dress to represent the El Salvador flag. In the center of the painting is the lifeline river “RIO GUAZAPA”. A river like this is where Lily’s family would wash clothes and bathe. The yellow flowers in each corner of the painting are the national flower, called “FLOR DE IZOTE”. Unlike flowers which face up, these face down, almost as if they are relaxing. They vary in color from vibrant yellow to soft off white. One the far right, you will see the national bird El Salvador, called “TOROGOZ”. Lily recalls how the birds would sometimes peck at her window, which she found humorous. She felt a friendly connection the the birds, as if they were very aware of each other’s presence.
Look closely at the mountain in the background, you might see the “sleeping lady”. This mountain view is only visible from some angles. When the civil war started in 1979, the fighting was fierce in Suchitoto on the other side of the mountain. Many people fled Suchitoto for the safety of Guazapa.
The painting took ten full days of hard work to realize, from building the frames, painting and installation. Izaya’s intention is for the viewer to feel as if they are stepping into Lily’s world, to experience where she’s from and the things that made her happy. This captures the place where Lily learned about herself and shaped how she relates to the community, family, food, and her culture.

Brittany Noelle PNW OPS Photography INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm
SHE ANSWERED THE CALL OF THE WILD!
Brittany Noelle is the founding/principal artist of PNW Orca Pod Squad Photography. Raised in the green mountains of Vermont, her love of nature began as a child while exploring the wilds of Acadia National Park in Maine. After witnessing their breaching in the Salish Sea her love of whales was solidified. Now a whale enthusiast and conservation activist, when not focused on the challenges of Harborview Medical Center’s Emergency Department, she spends countless hours along the west coast documenting these majestic creatures. You can usually find her with her camera on land or a boat along the shores of the Pacific, venturing to the San Juan Islands or Vancouver Island. As a wildlife photographer, naturalist and conservation advocate she enjoys connecting people with her local ecosystem and the animals that call the Salish Sea and the Pacific Northwest home. In 2022, 5% of all sales will be donated to Killer Whale Tales, a local non-profit, environmental education program that uses storytelling and field based science to inspire students to take an active role in conservation of Southern Resident killer whales and their environment.

Julius is a self-taught artist, born and raised in Seattle, WA. He started to explore his passion for drawing in 2017. Using abstract forms, he created works with graphite to build technical skills which steadily progressed towards representational subjects, while digital paintings enabled an environment that enhanced his understanding of color. Shael Anderson INDOORS+RECEPTION, 12pm-8pm
Shael’s images are triggered by seeing a material or object in place. Capturing how it has aged, weathered, and worn. How it was manipulated, either intentionally or unintentionally by its use or function. And how it has been polished or finished to gain its patina and beauty. Shael believes ‘seeing it in place allows my eye to capture it as a thought, and then let my mind work on where I want to take it as an ongoing experience for myself and others.” Born and raised in Seattle, the majority of the work in this show was discovered and captured locally.

Deb McCarroll BUSINESS HOURS ONLY (Permanent collection)
Deb McCarroll’s bold work embodies the Northwest’s regional culture. Patterns are created with Seattle’s ubiquitous falling rain. Paper is integrated into wet paint and then set on fire. Metal leaf is frequently woven into scenes and selectively oxidized with acid to add patinas in glittering greens and browns. Local flora and fauna are painted in startling realism and then pared with raw abstract practices.

Scott Chreist INDOORS + RECEPTION 5pm-til late
Scott Chreist hails from just left of the center of New Mexico. In his early years it was quite obvious that he was highly creative long before it was noted in any police blotter. He emerged unscathed from primary schooling only to find that he had somehow ended up in New England while his parents remained in the Southwest. So like any other normal young man, he launched himself into college for the third time. His GPA soared though he continued his valiant, if slightly misunderstood, efforts to understand the world around himself. If not for the heroic friendships he formed and the weathered guidance of his professors, surely Scott would have ended up working as a bartender for the remainder of his life. His art is influenced by people he’s known and places he’s been, by artists like Luigi Profeta, Matisse, Richter, Mark Price, and by the scenery life presents.

Artist Statement: I am a seer. I am a visual story-teller. On the canvas, color and form begin as visual dialogue… a conversation. Images develop from layers of acrylic glaze that build from bottom to top as I intertwine drawing and painting in the composition which creates story making and short vignettes from a world I know and experience. A world I know well where the secret places reveal themselves to me as a whisper, a knowing, a longing, or a prayer.

Shirene Soleiman INDOORS SHOW + RECEPTION 5pm-8pm
Shirene is an Iranian-American artist and curator born and raised in the Seattle area. After fully realizing she had been living according to limitations set by society and family dynamics, things that told her what a woman “should” be, it became her mission to break out of these limitations at every turn and to rediscover her own voice. This experience has been liberating and at times overwhelming, and she explores these feelings in her portraits. Whether Shirene is celebrating female empowerment and sexuality or navigating the shaky territory that comes with challenging the widely accepted definition of “woman,” she makes each portrait starting with a digital version on Procreate and then translates it onto the canvas with charcoal and acrylic paints. Flora Carlile-Kovacs: Flora Felts Handmade Textiles
My interest in textiles drew me to graduate studies in ethnography, but I felt a deeper passion for creating with fiber than analyzing it. I have learned several traditional fiber arts from the greatest masters in Hungary. When I’ve learned the basics of the felting technique, I realized this is a limitless medium with amazing possibilities. In my work I use the most ancient textile technique, combining carded, unspun wool and silk fibers with water, soap and vigorous kneading to create a durable, unwoven material: felt. I have improved the traditional techniques and invented new ones of my own. Breaking away from making useful objects I am now exploring how handmade felt can become applied art for public spaces. I use several layers of hand-dyed merino wool and silk fibers and fabrics to create optical color blending. I incorporate various materials in the felt to achieve captivating textures and surfaces. I often create raised surfaces so the light refracts on the ruffles of silk and synthetic fabrics. Handmade felt is underestimated and underrepresented in the art world. My mission is to find its audience and to break the boundary between craft and fine art.
