Business Spotlight: Verity Credit Union

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into Verity Credit Union in the West Seattle Junction is the vibrant artwork on the walls. Most banks and credit unions aren’t typically defined by creativity but that is exactly the feeling Verity, a not for profit credit union, provides. This unique banking business is living up to their name which means “a true principle or belief,” with a member mindset that includes socially responsible banking and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community. Displaying the work of local artists? Check. Every month, as an Art Walk partner, Verity features artwork in the West Seattle Art Walk, on the second Thursday of the month from 5 – 8 p.m.

“During the Art Walk, community members come in to see the latest creations of local artists, but many ask questions about our services which can lead to new business,” said Audrey Hartman, Community Branch Manager. Domenica Parisi was the featured artist at Verity in January 2023 – her art is pictured in the two middle photos below. Often, Verity continues to hang featured art in the lobby.

“The art on our walls is a great conversation starter on a regular basis.” – Audrey Hartman, Community Branch Manager, Verity Credit Union West Seattle

Verity has been a part of the Puget Sound area since 1933. They’ve changed their name a few times but never their ownership. Membership is limited to those who live, work or worship in the state. The company chose West Seattle for its vibrancy and location in the heart of the Junction so they could ensure consistent community engagement. Even the design of their branch with large glass doors that fully open when the weather is mild creates a welcoming atmosphere, especially during Junction events.

Supporting local artists is just one of the ways Verity puts the community first. For example, they recently removed non-sufficient fund fees as well as reduced overdraft fees for their members.

Audrey, who is also a representative on the Junction board, has been with West Seattle Verity nearly since it opened five years ago.

“This is my favorite place that I’ve ever worked, “said Audrey. “Verity is a great company and engaging with the community and sharing creative works of art is a lot of fun.”

Verity is located at 4505 California Ave. SW in the Junction and are open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
