West Seattle was in full bloom this month, with a wide variety of artistic styles showcased for the June Art Walk. Ceramicists, musicians, painters, photographers, sculptors, and more contributed to a well-rounded collection of pieces on display. This month, West Seattle Art Walk featured Art of Music at three locations with musicians Taylor John Hardin at West Seattle Grounds, Paul Gerard at Wildflour Bakery, and Larry Murante at Zeeks Pizza.

The sometimes-cloudy skies didn’t dull the atmosphere of Art Walk throughout Admiral neighborhood. At Zelda Zonk, artist Essa Baird is displaying pieces across several mediums, using a variety of materials that catch the eye throughout the store. Local artist Warren Pope brought two new works to his second-month showing at West Seattle Realty. Both works, “We Are Melting” and “The Weight of Terrorism” (inspired by the war in Ukraine), continue to resonate with viewers and speak to the current political climate. The bright portraits of artist Isabella Harris seemed to be jumping off the walls and coming to life at And Arlen. The vibrant colors and unique perspective of her works blend seamlessly into their aesthetic surroundings. At West Seattle Grounds, artist Andrew Gragg’s illustrative portraits of athletes graced the walls with strength and determination.

With a picture-perfect view of Elliot Bay and downtown Seattle, Lake Washington Physical Therapy was an ideal spot to sip and take in a great night of art. Showcasing works from Barbara Fugate, Linda-Jo Duffy, Karen Birchfield, Androu Morgan, Kenneth Kramer, Linda Kokanovich, and Ellen Lam, patrons could experience a mini Art Walk in one location on Harbor Avenue.

Down the Ave, Verity had wide open doors to the lovely summer evening with happy people enjoying the beautiful images of abstracted impressionistic Northwest scenes. Quail Park’s friendly, knowledgeable staff kindly shared information about the artwork of residents and staff on display. Lars Gesing displayed stunning photographic impressions of nature at its most sublime, a popular venue on quiet, peaceful 42nd Street. John L Scott’s joint was jumping with fabulous offerings of art, wine, and snacks with super friendly and knowledgeable brokers, as always. Discovery Shop had a breezy feel from the open door and a pleasant June night. And Moto Pizza’s outdoor art show was lively, with several artists and makers under tents, and a guitarist! At Doll Parts, Amanda Woodcock’s ceramics fit in perfectly with the colorful fabulous feel! And at Wildflour, in addition to the music we had artist Jenna Brechbiel demo’ing her stylistic watercolor techniques alongside plenty of free samples from the bakery.

In Morgan, our photographer was there early and businesses were awaiting the flow of Art Walk traffic with wine at the ready. Inner Space Designs was busy setting up with ample wine and cheese for attendees, with Kelsey Wong’s encaustic movement paintings literally flowing across the walls. At West Seattle Cellars, artist Doug Early was outside enjoying some evening rays of sun with his vivid photographs on display, while inside was bumping with wine tasters enjoying sips of delicious vintages. At Viscon, there were plenty of groups at tables awaiting the arrival of artist Michael A. Knutson whose large surreal paintings decorated the walls with a distinct presence. And at Canna West, the vibrant paintings of Artemis Fernweh were a colorful and creative addition to the space.

Our team of volunteer Art Walk photographers did a wonderful job of capturing the ambiance of the evening as well as the art and artists. Thank you, Meagan, Carole, Jacquie, Jill, Michelle, John, and Helen. We couldn’t do this without you! If you weren’t able to come out, we hope you take a moment to check out photos of the receptions below or on social media. Or, better yet, come see the shows yourself. Most of the artwork featured will be up all month long, so do find time to visit these venues.

We want to thank all our generous partners for the support they bring to the West Seattle Art Walk – Northwest Art and Frame, Verity Credit UnionCanna West Seattle, Quail Park, Easy Street Records, West Seattle Realty, our media partner West Seattle Blog and our printing partner Sky Printing.
