Emily Criswell, Robert Kinsey INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 4-8pm

To learn more about this show at Kingtide Ink see their event post on their website.

Coupe Ceramics: Into the Lemon Grove we go! Inspired by the botanical world, Coupe Ceramics makes vibrant, functional pottery that adds delight to the everyday rituals of life. Every piece is entirely handmade by Emily Criswell right here in the North Admiral neighborhood of West Seattle. From the moment a new bag of clay is opened to the final firing, Coupe is greatly inspired by the rich culture of ceramics of Italy, love of the cosmos and the sea. Emily takes immense pride in creating highly functional wares, and loves designing products that can be used in more than one way. Coupe Ceramics embraces a mindset that values sustainability, slowing down, breathing deeply and appreciating the individual character of handmade art. Coupe Ceramics: Functional. Artful. Sustainable.

Robert Kinsey (The Viper Club): As a collage artist working with mixed media, my creative process is deeply rooted in the exploration of past experiences and the intricate layers that shape our lives. I am fascinated by the complexity and richness of personal narratives, and I seek to visually translate these stories through the assemblage of diverse materials and textures.
Through carefully selected found materials, such as vintage photographs, antique papers, and symbolic objects, I explore the bittersweet nature of love and mortality. The act of collaging allows me to deconstruct and reconstruct these elements, forming new compositions that evoke a sense of both melancholy and hope.

David Egelhoff INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm

David Egelhoff is a Seattle-based artist whose work is inspired by existential moments, nature, and randomness. He explores color and composition through tally mark lines, creating a modern twist on abstract expressionism. Initially, the lines were a way to use leftover paint, but they soon became the focus of his art, representing moments in the artist’s life. David’s artistic process is driven by a need to create, gradually revealing the artwork’s essence. He employs the cut-up method, using paints and digital collage. Influenced by artists like Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, he primarily works with acrylic and oil paints, occasionally including watercolor. David’s visual language centers on blues, reds, whites, and yellows, using varying lines to captivate the audience. Viewers can engage with the art by questioning the absence of shapes and discovering suggested figures, prompting reflections on the ever-changing nature of his creations.

Heather Hargesheimer ARTIST OPEN STUDIO 5pm-8pm

My medium is encaustic painting, the ancient technique of manipulating pigmented beeswax on panels. The process involves applying heated beeswax onto rigid surface, such as prepared wood. The colors are achieved from adding pigments to the melted beeswax. The medium’s luminosity and depth have led me through a series of studies of abstract compositions built with strong graphical relationships and layered with rich colors. My work is restrained, yet complex; inspired by nature, but abstracted in its use of forms. Encaustic painting has allowed me a way to open my artwork to a new level of abstraction while still maintaining my connection to the natural world.

T. Frick is a self-taught emerging artist and female entrepreneur creating modern abstract art. She studied landscape architecture at the University of Wisconsin and still works as a practicing Landscape Architect, licensed in the state of Washington and Oregon. Seeking more creative balance, T. returned to painting during the pandemic and is excited to pursue her passion for art as a second career later in life. Art has always been a key part of Tโ€™s life even as a young child, but it was her training in the architectural field that advanced her drafting, sketching, and painting style. Today when she is not working, youโ€™ll find T creating โ€” colors, shapes, textures, and movement expressively come to mind, manifesting into abstract, oftentimes landscape, woodland or floral visions. Her style is ever-evolving, yet at the heart of each painting is an energy developed by her loose approach she calls โ€˜releasing her inner child.

Reverie โ€“ Voices in Monochrome

Step into a world where shades of black and white are not mere colors but vessels for myriad emotions, thoughts, and narratives. Within the series, โ€œReverie โ€“ Voices in Monochromeโ€, each piece serves as a window into the subconscious, where whispers of emotion and thought find expression in subtle gradients of black and white. Through a mastery of form and texture, art becomes a portal to the intangible landscapes of the mind. Let the monochromatic palette ignite your imagination, prompting contemplation and reflection on the complexities of the human experience where shades of gray whisper secrets untold. Embark on a voyage of discovery, where the unseen becomes visible and the whispers of the mind find a voice through the language of art.

Friend of Achilles

I am Scott Coffey, a painter, printmaker, graphic designer, and collage artist from Seattle, Washington. My lifelong interest in books, comics, and mythology has translated itself into an art practice of narrative work centered around stories, beliefs, and the intersection between the two. My work is imbued with color, as I am fascinated with the visual power and strong emotions that pigments provide. Due to my graphic design background, much of my fine art work also involves words, either in descriptive narratives alongside a piece, or in writing directly on a panel. The combination of words and images has a unique power neither element can provide on its own, and I value and attempt to channel that combination to tell stories that are personal, political, and queer.

ABSTRACT FENG SHUI

-my new work is inspired by feng shui principles of color and shape; wood/east, fire/south, earth/west, water/north It was a recent personal experience that sparked my interest in Feng Shui philosophies and their impact in painting. After some major life changes ,I decided to fix up my home. The living room felt dusty and dead somehow- stagnate? Cleaning didn’t fix it. I moved the furniture- then I decided to place one of my favorite paintings in the corner of my room. – it was as if the room turned for a moment, adjusted and – tranquility set in. Now I am exploring the colors and the shapes of Feng Shui principles, and have incorporate those ideas into my new work. The idea to positively influence the atmosphere of a home fascinates me. Painting is where I am at home; painting is how I speak.  I am happy you are here, and I hope my work speaks to you.

Diane Bellisario INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm

I moved to the PNW at 19 from east coast and I immediately felt at home in the PNW surrounded by water and trees. Throughout my life I never considered myself an artist.  As a child I enjoyed art but like many, art was not considered something beyond a hobby or pastime.  Throughout my adult life I dabbled in various artistic pursuits from tile mosaics to sewing, never really settling on something I truly enjoyed.
After spending a majority of my career working in the high-tech industry, I decided to leave in 2019 and explore what the next chapter would be. In 2021 I stumbled upon an online class for marquetry.  It was an artform I had never considered and the idea of working with wood without needing a whole woodshop appealed.  After my first class I was hooked, spending countless hours at the kitchen island cutting and piecing together multiple pieces. While I no longer work at the kitchen island that initial excitement in cutting and piecing together the art is still strong.  Working with the veneers allows for endless opportunities to explore texture and depths that occur by placing different woods and grains together, for me, itโ€™s reminiscent of putting together a big puzzle but without a picture as a guide.  I love taking an old craft typically used in furniture making  and interpreting it in a modernized form.

When Feathers Appear

When Feathers Appear, the studies in graphite, began with the beckoning sound of birdsong.  Usually in the woods, frequently by the shore, birdsong filled the air.  It became the soundtrack of my life, it would seem.  I was aware and I appreciated all that was before me.   One day, life changed for me, as it does for everyone.  After experiencing profound loss, I rarely heard or even enjoyed the birdsong.  I began to look down; I began to wrap myself in thoughts of all that I had lost.  Still wandering in the woods, still finding myself by the shoreline, I eventually began to see , and I began to look for signs, signs of forward thinking, signs of hope. And feathers appeared before me…hence, my inspiration.

Hope is a thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all

Sarah C.B. Guthrie INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 5:30pm- 8pm

Seattle Joy

Sarah C.B. Guthrie is a Seattle-based painter and writer, specializing in vibrant works of contemporary pointillism designed to inspire joy. โ€œTo me, joy is an optimism of spirit we all carry within us and can be sparked through our actions. Paradoxically, we can (and need to) feel joy at the same time we feel anger, sadness, and grief,โ€ she shared. Her paintings take a lot of inspiration from the natural world of the Pacific Northwestโ€“our gorgeous gardens, trees, lakes, ponds, sunrises and sunsets. A special feature of her process is the array of colors within each brush mark. Her marks contain dozens of slender lines of color that engage the viewer in optically mixing the colorsโ€“inviting them into the process as they find their own joy in her non-objective paintings. Sarahโ€™s paintings have been part of solo and group shows in museums, galleries, and businesses in Seattle, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Washington DC, including at the prestigious Phillips Collection. Her works are held in private collections in Seattle, New York, London, Washington DC, California, and around the world.

“This series is named after the daunting nature of learning something new, persevering & pursuing goals no matter how challenging it may be. This series is meant to pull the viewer into the moment of stepping into the unknown, while romanticizing the beauty of it. Natasha’s subject focus lies in people & the profound emotions they embody. Having explored many various mediums, from charcoal, ink & oil to watercolor & gouache, Natasha is now delving into a new focus. “”Into The Void”” marks her first ever acrylic series. Her journey began as a child. Her father’s military service meant frequent relocations, and art became a natural outlet. She excelled in high school, which led her to study at Central Washington University, receiving a minor in Studio Art. While at CWU she had the opportunity to paint murals for the university, participate in local art competitions, & represent the student body with a class gift to the universityโ€™s president. Natasha’s work is dedicated to her late grandfather, who was her biggest supporter & always filled with unconditional love, as well as to her family & friends, whose support has been invaluable in her artistic journey.”
