May Art Walk was quite the scene with crowds of West Seattleites enjoying a backdrop of dreamy weather as the perfect accompaniment to an evening of art and merriment. There was lots of excitement as neighbors listened to the Muse Fest and enjoyed the new exhibitions.
In Alaska Junction, the crowds were out and ready to stay!
Compass deeply moving “WE Stand for Peace” installation brought cool tones and earthy images. Capers boasted the Board of the upcoming West Seattle Garden Club Tour joyfully promoting the June 23rd event. Proceeds benefit 11 local nonprofits, get your tickets! Rush Hour was filled with folks checking out both artist’s bold images and varied textures. ArtsWest lobby, which doubles as an excellent gallery space, hosted a collection of sophisticated tapestry-like work that Art Walk attendees were intrigued by.
Doll Parts featured some very fun art, which is a perfect fit for the store! Inspired by artist Lauren Bayer’s mom and all the many pills she has to take. At Talarico’s, Jonarra Swanson has pieces all over the restaurant which fit the decor very well. The art truly looks like it belongs there on a long-term basis. At Fitness Together artist Kayla Sordahl was very kind, explaining to us that she has only been doing this type of art for about a year. She likes to explore with colors and designs. No two paintings are ever the same!
Jet City Labs featured so many good artists as always. Dale Schlotzhauer paints resin onto vases that she gets from thrift stores/Goodwill. And she then sells them all, no matter the size, shape, etc. for $22. Angie Marcelynas creates jewelry from found/thrown away objects. She takes things, breaks into tiny pieces and creates unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces from them. The third artist makes jewelry out of silver and gold, including unique bracelets that looked like nails twisted around your wrist. The fourth artist made a lot of things out of paper – pictures to hang on your wall, as adornments for gift boxes, paper holders for gift cards, and more!
Lars Gesing’s stunning photos are beautiful no matter where you see them but they are especially stunning when you’re inside his gallery. Verity featured T Frick’s stunning landscapes and was able to showcase her large abstract art piece that reflects the art that she often has showing in her studio in Georgetown. Danceable rock and relatable photos were both on display at Easy Street, a venue which really takes care of business holding down their popular corner of Alaska Junction.
“We had such a good night we almost ran out of wine”! reported hosting Windermere broker. But they didn’t, and a happy crowd was still enjoying the beautiful encaustic art and music at 8:00 on this warm spring evening.
The Admiral neighborhood was happy to welcome Wicked Rae’s Art Studio to their first Art Walk tonight. It was also a big night of firsts for artist Vesper hosting her first solo show and selling her first piece. Congrats to Vesper and to the lucky owner of a shimmering showcase of the sun and moon. There was a huge crowd, spilling out onto the street with people mingling and enjoying the evening over at Wend, Sebastiano’s, and Soiree.
Carly Ann Calbero captivated the audience at West Seattle Realty this sunny evening. With and warm weather and the doors open, passersby couldn’t help but be drawn in to Carly’s music paired with the mesmerizing visages of artist Autumn Tranquilino’s second month on display at West Seattle Realty.
Art Walk provided a colorful backdrop at Good Society Brewery and Public House when the Westies Run Club showed up to cap off the evening with drinks, rest and a good dose of art. Talking about rest and relaxation, the chair massages for Hawthorne Massage and Self Care’s one-year anniversary bash during Art Walk were the talk of the town. John Woodruff’s serene exploration of color, line and the photographic medium completed a night of rejuvenation and reflection at Hawthorne.
At West Seattle Grounds, the subject matter was both beautiful and arresting as Clara Boline brought her show “Bumper Sticker on a Ferrari” to one of the Admiral neighborhoods perennial Art Walk hotspots. Musician Abby K’s heartfelt melodies harmonized with Boline’s exploration of femininity’s strength. The art at KingTide Ink was both on the walls and on its patrons as the tattoo shop hosted a flash event alongside artist Brittany Noelle’s ever stunning images of our resident orcas. If you were very lucky, you might have also had the chance to see some of Brittany’s most recent footage of our marine friends.
John L Scott was showcasing John Costantini’s amazing watercolor and marker car sketches. Since his focus has been on mid-century vehicles, he’s also started drawing mid-century furniture for his collection. New to ArtWalk Avid Builders featured long time artist Sandra Simpson with her unique style, along with sketches done by her grandchildren (one of which sold while our photographer was taking photos!)
In Morgan Junction, there was such a variety of art on display. West Seattle Cellars was decked out with colorful expressions by Sarah CB Guthrie whose personality and outfit were right on par with her artwork. Alki Arts featured art by Vanessa Lanza, Steve Jensen, Warren Pope, Joanne Shellan Voyages in a diverse array of artistic styles.
At Nor Designs we viewed the medley of artistic styles represented by Kristy Lewellen’s colorful birds and subtle abstract pieces, alongside jewelry by Johanna Lindsey. BethAnn Lawson’s beautiful graphic paintings of varied imagery decorated the walls over at Canna West. Lastly, Pine Lake Cellars was still entertaining and enjoying the art of ANO Jewelry (aka Alizah’s Jewelry) until well after 8pm. We just didn’t want Art Walk to end!

If you weren’t able to come out, we hope you take a moment to check out photos of the receptions below or on social media. Or, better yet, come see the shows yourself.
