With the heat wave behind us and Summerfest just one day away, West Seattle residents finally felt alive and ready to enjoy a characteristically beautiful evening. There were so many people out enjoying themselves that it was impossible not to feel grateful for this wonderfully supportive and creative neighborhood. Artists and business owners alike were thankful for the support they feel from their community at Art Walk.
In Alaska Junction, the streets were closed off in preparation for Summerfest and with so many people out it almost felt like Summerfest had already begun. Jet City Labs featured multiple super fun artists. The list even included Lora Radford, who used to be the executive director of the Junction. The Dip drew a big crowd at Easy Street who entertained with their upbeat, lively energy. At Fitness Together artist Bonnie Katz Sailors was the former manager of Fitness Together and had a wide variety of art.
Billy Kincaid wowed at Windermere with a WIDE variety of art. He has lots of followers and sold many paintings last night! Verity Credit Union showcased the well-known art by T. Frick who’s art made a great abstract backdrop to the music of Birch Pareira and the Gin Joints. At Vain Hair Salon artist Carrie Brazil made great use of the venue’s Iong wall to display lots of paintings.
At Rush Hour Aerin Sizelove displayed such unusual and clever pieces. John L. Scott Real Estate continues to impress with a dramatic showroom featuring a glorious chandelier and staircase. Painter Roxanne Fawcett displayed alongside performer Shelby Natasha. Worth the visit! Pine Lake Cellars had a busy night, pouring delicious wine with Art of Music represented by guitarist Marco de Carvalho.
Over at Admiral, art continues to be a sensory experience at Wicked Rae’s Art Studio where co-proprietor Jules McVey’s photography graced the walls tonight. Splatter paint walls provided a colorful backdrop for The Garbage Society whose smooth sound brought in a continuous stream of Art Walkers tonight.
It was a great night to be at West Seattle Realty where our poster artist Robin Jordan showcased her work in the first of three Art Walk appearance this summer. Her striking portraits commanded attention even amongst the mingling, noshing and sipping usual to a great evening at West Seattle Realty.
At Hawthorne Massage and Self Care West Seattle artist Jiliane Patriarca’s colorful abstract pieces lit up the space while also evoking the bright summer evening that played host to our July Art Walk.
WEND artist Lauran Quist displayed colorful abstractions of flowers and nature, synchronizing nicely with the fabulous pieces displayed by shop owner Wendy Woldenberg and the mountain air sounds of Norman Baker’s guitar.
At Art Walk’s northernmost stop, West Seattle Grounds, 19 year old artist Austin Picinich wowed the crowd with live painting while also showcasing his impressive body of work. In particular his 3D school of salmon seemed poised to leap off the walls at any minute to join the party.
Morgan Junction was quite busy even later in the evening.
Viscon had a large crowd with lots of interest in the artist Reese Hutchinson’s work. West Seattle Cellars featured impressive photos by Dave Abeyta, alongside a tasting featuring an array of Australian wines paired with Vegemite and Aussie pies for the full experience. At Nor Designs, artist Brooke Borcherding was happy to talk with us about her background in art, and the inspiration for her abstract landscapes.
Inner Space Designs featured woven wall hangings by artist Dana Alkebulan, a West Seattleite at heart who now lives and works on San Juan Island. And last but certainly not least, Alki Arts had a wonderful collection of local artists on display, all interesting and unique work. Continually amazing us with the incredible talent of our local community.
Our team of volunteer Art Walk photographers did a wonderful job of capturing the ambiance of the evening as well as the art and artists. Thank you, Carole, Helen, John B, John R, Meagan, Nancy, and Stacie. We couldn’t do this without you! If you weren’t able to come out, we hope you take a moment to check out photos of the receptions below or on social media. Or, better yet, come see the shows yourself. Most of the artwork featured will be up all month long, so do find time to visit these venues.
We want to thank all our generous partners for the support they bring to the West Seattle Art Walk – Northwest Art and Frame, Verity Credit Union, Canna West Seattle, Quail Park, Easy Street Records, West Seattle Realty, our media partner West Seattle Blog and our printing partner Sky Printing.
