Enlivened by the coming change of seasons, West Seattle Art Walk enjoyed an enthusiastic crowd of onlookers, ready to support the local art, music, and businesses we all enjoy. West Seattle Art Walk is such a special event for our community. Join us every second Thursday of the month to see what we’re about. This September 12 highlighted a collection of artists displaying unique perspectives through their art work.
It was a crisp, fresh evening with an eager community ready to enjoy the art and music offered throughout the Alaska Junction.
Compass was hosting George Engelstad for his first showing of his photography. He is very new to the field but has a great selection of urban photography of places around the Seattle area. If you are interested to learn more about his work you will not find him on Instagram, Facebook or even a personal webpage but you can get a hold of him via his email at Georgeengelstad@gmail.com.
At Windermere, Florence Weintraub was a delight as she shared with the guests about her 87 years of life as an artist and reflected in her impressionistic watercolors and eponymous art books.
Megan Leigh’s splatter paint designs decorated the walls at Verity.
Arts West was hosting Jayashree Krishnan this evening for the Art Walk. She had a very nice display of her stunning portraits and landscapes. She has a unique style of blending abstract and representational techniques and does a great job of using her art to tell powerful stories of the beauty and essence of the world. Artist and traveler, Melanie Beihle was featured at Capers. Her rich color schemes capture a descriptive sense of time and place. Jet City Labs was teeming with energy as a group of talented artists shared their crafts ranging from canvas to book binding to jewelry and candle making. Wonderful assortment of talent including Robin Jordan our poster artist from this quarter.
New to art walk, artist and Verity employee Megan Leigh is inspired by music and paints the colors and feelings the music inspires. The QR codes provided on the paintings links you to the playlist for each piece!
At John L. Scott, Gracia’s the Artist’s artwork is beautifully layered and paired nicely with both the food/drinks and the music that was provided by Late Night Shell Station Run (sponsored by Andy Cantor and Lura Noyes of the John L. Scott team).
Great American Diner & Bar hosted an evening crowd of diners who were serenaded by the Toujaise Flute Duo. They have presented Flutes in the Forest performances in the past, but it continues to be an enjoyable experience. Doll Parts displayed the vibrant textile art of Edith Pilaf boasting splashes of color mixed with uplifting messages.
Denise had on display this evening at Therapeutics Associates just a small portion of her vast collection of work. They are very colorful portraits of pop culture icons across the years. Tonight she had Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, the Beatles and more. This stop is definitely worth a detour off California Avenue to check out their local artists. In Morgan Junction, there was a great turnout for Reeve Washburn and Brooke Borcherding at Alki Arts on a beautiful night. Nor hosted a bevy of artists for a WS Art Tour kick off event. It was a lively evening drawing lots of interest. Make sure to check out Art Tour on September 21st! West Seattle Nursery was the perfect setting for the artistry of watercolorist Jenna Brechbiel and 18-year old ceramicist and painter Loretta Philip.
In Admiral, Welcome Road Winery catered to a crowd in the courtyard, enjoying music by Trevor Ras.
Megan Carroll brought bold colors and strong graphic elements to Sebastiano’s Natural Wines tonight in a variety of size, including minis perfect for a Little Free Art Gallery. The smell of saltwater and seaweed seemed to emanate from her work even as our Seattle summer fades. At Wend, the crowds were positively buzzing for West Seattle artist Emily Juarez’s stunning gallery of faces. Melding her hand drawn and digital styles with subtle splashes of color, Emily’s pieces captivated those in attendance.
A variety of goddess figures were on show at Hawthorne Massage and Self Care where Autumn Tranquilino’s art had the space feeling very much ready for a cooler, calmer and more mystical season ahead. And if you’ve never been out to Hawthorne Massage for Art Walk before, proprietor Heather has a gallery wall with pieces from all of her previous Art Walk artists.
Two founding members of the West Seattle Art Walk were on show at West Seattle Grounds where Dan Jacobs showcased his exquisite photography for us all again while Lora Radford popped up with stoneware candles perfect for these earlier sunsets. With live music and cupcakes as well, it was tempting to while away the whole night with friends and neighbors at the coffee shop.
Walter’s Wine shop a new addition to the West Seattle wine and coffee scene was filled with neighbors reviewing their outstanding local and international selection.
Our team of volunteer Art Walk photographers did a wonderful job of capturing the ambiance of the evening as well as the art and artists. Thank you, Jon C, John R, Meagan, Mia, Michelle, and Molly.
