Working with the veneers allows for endless opportunities to explore texture and depths that occur by placing different woods and grains together, for me, it’s reminiscent of putting together a big puzzle but without a picture as a guide. I love taking an old craft typically used in furniture making and interpreting it in a modernized form.

I primarily focus on hip hop, jazz, and basketball in my pieces, with my signature touch being the use of color. Recently, I have been fortunate to receive positive media coverage, with features on Komo, Seattle Refined, PBS, King 5 Evening, the Renton Reporter, and other local outlets. In addition to being an artist, I am a devoted husband, father of three, and a man of faith. Through my art, I aim to spread love and evoke feelings of nostalgia for the best aspects of our culture. I am Kingspen.

Kyle Williams INDOOR SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm.
Kyle Williams is a Seattle based illustrator, originally from Annapolis, Maryland. He studied printmaking under Margo Humphrey at UMD that developed his current style. He was also mentored in the Cape Cod School of Art style by premiere plain-air painter in Annapolis, Lee Boynton. The mentorship developed KW’s palette and approach to seeing color.
Artist statement: I know many artists love using their sketchbook—I am definitely not one of them. I’ve tried it many times and regretfully obtained nothing more than a mountain of unused sketchbooks crammed into my closet. I prefer to hold in my noggin beautiful moments, thoughts, and words from my day and then siphon it into scrawly scribbles of paint on canvas. That initial act creates just enough space between me and my little ideas to ask the painting what it wants to become.
I paint in a primitive style because some cultures that are now pretty much forgotten created images of humans in an abstracted form to say— “Hey! We are more than just meat bags.” Although I think we are beautiful meat bags, my interest lies in the unseen aspects that make us human BEINGS. I also mash multiple patterns on the human body and landscape to suggest that who we are and how we see the world are fragmented shards of memory, emotions, energy, and beliefs loosely held together in time.

Lisa Lamoreaux BUSINESS HOUR DISPLAY ONLY 6pm- 8pm.
Lisa Lamoreaux is a professional artist from San Juan Island whose work can be found in many private and public collections and has been featured in magazines, newspapers, and television. Her mixed-media paintings are often composed of many layers of paper, sculpting medium, acrylic and water-mixable oil paint.
My inspirations are often the play between theories in physics, nature, and philosophy, particularly synchronicity, which is an ongoing theme in my work. I always enjoy the intuitive nature of pushing paint and mediums around on the canvas to see where the painting organically wants to go, and I often begin without a plan in mind. It isn’t until the painting has marinated for a while, that a subject may or may not reveal itself through a random line or shadow in the texture. I enjoy abstracts and representational work, and sometimes in the same painting.

Flora Felt Studio
Flora Carlile-Kovacs at the Building ARTIST OPEN STUDIO 5pm-8pm
I work with the most ancient, and probably an endangered textile technique: I combine raw, carded wool with water, soap, and vigorous kneading to create a durable, unwoven, dense, and environmentally sustainable material: felt. I often hand-dye my materials and incorporate silk fabrics and other materials to enrich the surface. In 2022 I invented a technique where I pleat hand-dyed silk strips and then felt it in a merino wool base. The rhythm, the frequency and the varied size pleats create a 3 dimensional, pixelated abstract picture for the distant viewer. My work is mainly inspired by shapes, textures and beauty in the surrounding nature of the PNW, reflections on water, and magnified details (e.g. a magnified butterfly wing or lichen surfaces). Felting is not bound to any frame or instruments in the process. The work can expand in size, can be created in any shape, and even can be sculpted. Wool is organic and renewable, and handmade felt is a versatile material to soften modern industrial interiors while performing many environmental benefits (sound abatement, moisture management, natural insulation, fire resistance – and can be fireproofed, too). Handmade felt is an underestimated and underrepresented medium in the art world. My mission is to break the boundary between fine craft and art and bring felt back to modern living spaces and interior design.
