Pam Hemmerling INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm

Becoming an artist later in life and without formal training, I have found that the creative journey surprises and brings joy in unexpected ways. I primarily paint figures, portraits, and abstracts using acrylic paint but rarely start on a smooth canvas. To build up layers and texture I use vintage book paper, fabric, and other ephemera. Living in West Seattle for the past 25 years I continue to be inspired by the ordinary beauty found in each day. Through this current series of female portraits, I hope to touch the viewer in a meaningful way, forming a connection by sharing a compelling narrative of vulnerability and strength.

35 Days Until Spring!

Rebecca Woodhouse: (featured large works) Working on a large scale on the floor, I embrace unconventional techniques that mirror the complexity of human connection—messy, layered, and ultimately revelatory. The final pieces are characterized by their explosive texture and depth, inviting viewers to explore the emotional and metaphorical landscapes within.

Come to Capers to see the work of 5 artists…some of whom you know…and celebrate the the advent of Spring with us! Melissa Misoda returns with a a lovely grouping of her blown glass vases…perfect for Valentine’s Day flowers. Lea Basile-Lazarus’s body of small work is her response to the 2025 election. The recurring motif of the house appears as the house serves as a symbol of safety, identity, and resilience—representing not just a physical structure but also the essence of people with strong values and purpose. Within each piece, you’ll find a glowing spark, an inner light that evokes hope and positivity as we navigate this new sociopolitical landscape. ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is meant to display all that is beautiful about my black culture, it is my intent for the viewer to grow an appreciation for all that has been provided by the many faces of the black diaspora.

ARTIST BIO

My name is Rodney H King, and I am the artist and owner of Kingspen LLC. My goal is to create vibrant images that celebrate the greatness of black culture. I primarily focus on hip hop, jazz, and basketball in my pieces, with my signature touch being the use of color. Recently, I have been fortunate to receive positive media coverage, with features on Komo, Seattle Refined, PBS, King 5 Evening, the Renton Reporter, and other local outlets. In addition to being an artist, I am a devoted husband, father of three, and a man of faith. Through my art, I aim to spread love and evoke feelings of nostalgia for the best aspects of our culture. Karen Graber INDOOR SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm.

Bio: Karen Graber is an abstract, mixed media artist. She has been a professional artist for over 30 years and has been an art instructor through continuing education at community colleges throughout Seattle. Karen has studied art at Cornish College of the Arts, The Factory of Visual Arts, Pratt Fine Arts Center and University of Washington.  Karen’s work has been in numerous galleries and juried shows through the years and is collected nationally.

My artistic interest is in the realm of abstraction. Never wanting to know too much about what I’m doing, I would rather fumble, stumble and play with line, form, and color relationships. I’m at my most creative when I collaborate rather than try to control my materials. I don’t always know where I am going, but trust I will get there. My practice of making art is also a vehicle for tapping into a deeper consciousness where I can step outside of my day-to-day reality and shake hands with the unknown. Experimentation, spontaneity, and curiosity are my guides, passion is my fuel.

Shelley Irish ARTIST OPEN STUDIO 4pm-8pm

Through my art, I explore the web of psychology and the comfort of nature. I aim to paint beautiful things that act as a bridge between healing and the rawness of feelings. When I paint, I feel like a choreographer pausing the dance of shadow, light and color at the precise moment when all of them are in their full expression. To find that full expression of each component of the dance, I use Master’s and Mische Techniques and labor over my paintings for months or years. I started ‘disappearing’ while painting as a young girl and the effects of the creative process on the brain have captivated me ever since. Deep meditation is the only thing I have been able to relate to these experiences. Now I am an artist obsessed with neuroscience and how art effects the brain. I am a painting teacher and Certified Therapeutic Arts Coach. I guide people in personal liberation through tools of the the mind and imagination. I work with individuals and business teams.

Steffanie Lorig BUSINESS HOUR DISPLAY ONLY 6pm- 8pm.

During the week, Steffanie Lorig is a designer at a professional services firm, but in her off time, she heads for her studio and immerses herself in creative endeavors. Her whimsical and folkloric creations often have mutable forms, exploring a world of impossible possibilities—where the expected is turned inside out and upside down. She nurtures curiosity—rather than judgment—and embraces mess-making and randomness.

Unconstrained by predictability, she lets the piece become what it wants to be and lets her imagination lead where it will. To help her relinquish control, she often uses her hands, sticks, or kitchen utensils to increase her sense of play.

She almost always has paint on her somewhere.
