August 14 Art Walk reminded us to get out and enjoy summer before its over! We walked, we marveled, we gabbed, and we toe tapped to music all while enjoying the jacket-free, care-free air of summer. To make for even more fun, Art of Music was in full swing with musicians serenading crowds up and down California Ave.
Art of Music included these fantastic shows: Fae Wiedenhoft at West Seattle Grounds; Larry Murante at John L. Scott Real Estate West Seattle; Belle Shea and Selena Tibert at Due’ Cucina; Westside Jazz Trio at Bonjour Vietnam; and Stephcynie at Beveridge Place Pub.
In Morgan Junction, businesses were enjoying lots of visitors, and mingling crowds discussed artists work at Alki Arts and Inner Space Designs. The hosts at Nor Design were incredibly welcoming, with a steady stream of visitors making the rounds through the bright and jovial design studio. Over at Viscon, there were plenty of patrons sipping on wine and enjoying the bright paintings lining the walls. West Seattle Nursery also had a fantastic showing, with the perfect backdrop for the organic watercolors on display.
So much going on at Art Walk in Admiral! Newcomer Dragonfly Yoga and Dance. Danielle Marcuson impressed with her fiber art creations made with a tufting gun, while Wicked Raven Art dazzled with her art made with butterflies and pressed dried flowers and vintage plants. Artist Jan Brown showcased her beautiful, colorful art to enjoy and priced for people to have, while Heidi Peerman displayed her intricate and very wearable leather jewelry, inspired from her experience with her leather-chair-chewing dog Daisy. All this art was punctuated by soothing beats from DJ Phil.
Guests at West Seattle Grounds were triple treated: guitarist and vocalist Fae Wiedenhoeft, intricate and detailed hand pulled screen printed from artisit Amy M Douglas and a farm-to-table pop-up store from Waite & Garlough offering all kinds of tasty products. The high spirited crowd sipped and swayed to the music while enjoying the pleasant August weather.
We stopped by the indoor show and reception at Snip Its for Seattle-based photographer and videographer Rafiki Hamilton, known as FikiInFocus. It was inspiring to learn that earlier this year, Rafiki’s self-portrait was featured in the Seattle Art Museum, a well-deserved recognition for an artist whose storytelling through photography feels so genuine. He is even working with ceramic too, see the picture of his realistic ceramic pear. Keep up the good work Rafiki!
We wandered into John L Scott to see Seattle abstract oil painter Stephanie Scott and we were immediately drawn in by her bold, geometric canvases. Her work radiates with vivid color, crisp lines, and touches of gold leaf that catch the light in just the right way. Each piece felt like a carefully crafted puzzle. Nice to see you at the Art Walk again, welcome back.
Tonight at Verity, artist Jonarra Swanson showcased her art, giving us the opportunity to experience the power of her work in person. Known for her striking “The Human Current” series, Jonarra uses her art to explore identity, connection, and healing, transcending boundaries of race and language to reveal the shared humanity that unites us all. Her bold blue figures invite viewers to see beyond skin color and into the essence of the soul, sparking conversations that bridge communities. All prints will be available for purchase until January 2026, making tonight the perfect opportunity to connect with both the artist and her vision. Check out her webpage at https://www.jonarra.com/ or stop by her shop at the Columbia Center downtown.
Capers was featuring three talented Seattle artists, Jacqui Beck, Leslie Nan Moon, and Linda Voelker. We were treated to an inspiring mix of mediums. Jacqui’s acrylic and mixed media pieces burst with layered texture and color. Leslie’s linocut prints showcased striking detail and craftsmanship, she was not able to attend tonight, but had many of her well known pieces. Linda’s encaustic works offered a luminous, almost mystical quality. She captures the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, from seascapes and florals to vibrant explorations of color and design. Drawing inspiration from her lifelong love of water, her art reflects both skill and a playful, immersive creativity. Each artist brought a distinct voice and style, creating a gallery experience that felt dynamic and full of discovery, truly something for everyone.
We stopped in to see The World Through Colton’s Eyes by an 11-year-old photographer Colton Haveson. We were completely charmed by his fresh perspective. Guided by his mentor and grandfather, Colton has developed an impressive eye for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. His collection featured moments from his recent trip to Europe, ancient buildings, winding streets, even moody alleyways, alongside candid shots of daily life in West Seattle and his own family. Knowing he edits and frames each piece himself made the work feel even more personal. It’s clear Colton is just getting started, but his passion for photography already shines through every frame.
At ArtsWest, there were 70+ guests which was amazing considering they are in between plays!
In Admiral Jett Architecture showcased beautiful watercolor and pen/ink and colored pencil drawings from artist Patricia Exworthy. You can see the pride and love in the picture of the artist’s proud daughter and her husband, owner of Jet.
Wend was lively as always, featuring the layered multi-medium art of K. Lobdell and the fun ceramics art of Carolyn Authenrieth. Adding to the fun was a pop-up store by Simple Goodness, with organic cane sugar syrups (great for cocktails or spritzers) from the family farm.
