It was a lovely cool and crisp evening for our October 9 West Seattle Art Walk and Art of Music. We got to stop by our local art walk establishments for lots of great music, delicious food, and inspiring art, all from our wonderful local neighborhood!

In Morgan Junction, there was a large variety of painting styles on display for us to enjoy. There were two artists at Mailbox West: Glenda Weibel and Pamela Benetti, showcasing beautiful, moody artwork. At Viscon Cellars, artist Jennifer H Lowe told us that she grew up on the northeast side of the state, around wheat farms. She loves drawing what she knows, which are farms, fields, and mountains. She’s retired and loves painting! Autumn Tranquilino displayed her mystical body of work at Canna.

Alki Arts featured three artists: C.A.Pierce, Robin Weiss, Cheryl Zahniser and Leigh Knowles. C.A.Pierce lives on Lake Washington and loves drawing her view. She’s recently started drawing hard lines of buildings, including drawings of barns. She told me about the painting called “Evening Contrails” which is based on her time as a flight attendant when an unaccompanied minor was on a flight by a window and saw the contrails and asked, “does the plane scratch the sky?”  Guest artist Mel was an engineer who has been painting watercolors for almost 60 years now. He paints his pictures from his memory, noting the light and shadows that he sees and highlights those in his paintings. He is excited to show his work at Alki Arts and finds Diane and her gallery both exquisite.

In Admiral, there were many photographers and painters displaying their work up on the Northern end of California Ave.

Matthew Hoover displayed PNW-themed impressionist paintings at West Seattle Grounds. Hawthorne Massage and Self Care featured photos of images seeen through a meditative lens by Dan Jacobs.

New to the scene, Columbia Bank had Allyne Armitage’s photography to view. Sara Carmer McMahon showed her cut paper designs at Good Society. Fan favorite Suzanne Uschold displayed her fabric landscapes at Wend.

In Alaska Junction, there was a lot to see as always, and similarly to Admiral, there were a lot of photographers showing their work. Philip Malkin displayed photography at John L Scott, as did Jon Couch at Verity, very different styles but both were unique and interesting! Terra Nova Duo joined the 3 Washington artists during Art Walk at Capers. Eugene Lee displayed b&w photography at Compass, Anna Krumpos’ graphic drawings were on display at Artswest, and painter Billy Kincaid displayed bright and bold work at Winderemere. There was an art pop-up with live DJ at Jet City Labs and Tyson Foster showed work at Junction 47.

Alki was atmospheric as ever, with an ocean breeze making it a nice time to be out for a walk, and extra cozy to go inside to see the art. Log House Museum was super welcoming and engaging, and West Seattle Arcade and Gary’s Place were fun and friendly. We met artist Babs Fulton, who clearly has a creative soul. We loved the titles of her works including the CTRL-ALT-DELETE cat, built out of computer keys! Super cool!

Art of Music delighted our ears with Guitar Gil @ Otter on the Rocks in the greater Admiral District, Terra, Nova Duo @ CAPERS in the Alaska Junction, Heather Ward @ Whisky West in the Morgan Junction
