Come spend a fun filled evening wandering through this month’s art walk. The art walk keeps expanding and we now have showings in the Admiral district, the Alaska and Morgan Junctions as well as Alki Avenue. So it may be rainy or cold outside, or it may be lovely and springlike, anything goes in the Northwest this time of year, but it will be warm and inviting at all the businesses that support our artists. Plus they usually have something nice to drink and nosh on! So, mark your calendars to join us May 14th! Also, make sure to enjoy a wide variety of “Art Walk Specials” at 20 cozy bars, restaurants and cafes (see map below) while viewing the evening art walk.

This post’s hero artwork is by Phillip Jones . Phillip’s art is showing this month at NOR Design and Construction .

Please note: We will be updating the businesses and their artists as the week goes on. Please check back before Second Thursday evening!

Originally from Arizona, she draws inspiration from the boats, coastlines, and ever-changing water that now surround her—elements that felt distant and mysterious growing up in the desert. Before turning to painting, she spent over a decade exploring the world through photography, a practice that continues to inform her eye for composition. Suzanne Uschold INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm

Suzanne Uschold was born and raised near Buffalo, NY but has lived in West Seattle since 1987. She enjoys capturing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with her camera while hiking or taking scenic drives. She then turns that photo into a quilt using a variety of techniques including collage, applique, thread painting and free motion quilting. Her pieces are made with commercial fabric or upcycled denim. While some art quilters embellish their work with paint, she prefers to “paint” her quilts, using only fabric and thread or the occasional use of cheesecloth, burlap or cotton balls. Recently, she has also begun to make small needle felted landscapes out of wool.

Suzanne is a member of Contemporary QuiltArt Association. She has shown her work in a variety of places including the International Quilt and Fiber Arts Festival, Schack Art Center, Pacific NW Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum and Vashon Center for the Arts.

It also includes photos taken in Fairbanks, Alaska, where Greg and his wife Tiffany own two log cabins. Booking details are available on Greg’s website (scan the QR code below).
The most recent additions to the collection were captured on March 25, 2025, in Lapland, Finland, where Greg now works as a trip leader for the Dressler Detours Northern Lights tour.

Julissa Quezada Rosales INDOORS SHOW & RECEPTION 2pm -7pm Artist will not be in attendance.

Forms of Story

In Forms of Story, Julissa explores painting as a way of understanding how energy moves through space and form. Working with an intuitive yet deliberate process, she treats the canvas as an active field where layers are built, softened, and revealed over time. Influenced by her background in architecture, her work is guided by a sensitivity to spatial relationships, allowing each painting to develop as a lived experience rather than a fixed image. Through the interplay of color, light, and shadow, forms emerge and dissolve, carrying traces of memory and emotion. Light directs attention, color creates structure and feeling, and shadow introduces depth and stillness—together unfolding quiet, open-ended narratives. Her paintings become vessels that hold these subtle shifts, inviting viewers into a space of reflection where meaning is felt as much as it is seen.

Artist Biography
Julissa Quezada Rosales is a multidisciplinary artist, and architectural designer born in a small town in Honduras and raised in New York. She began her artistic practice with a focus in realism working with graphite and charcoal before transitioning to oil painting in 2018; expanding her exploration of form, atmosphere, and emotional resonance through color. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Marywood University in 2019, and her background in architecture continues to inform her sensitivity to space and composition. Since 2024, she has exhibited her work throughout the Seattle area and has participated in live painting at multiple music events, extending her practice into immersive and performative environments.

Jeffrey Starkes INDOOR SHOW & RECEPTION 5pm-8pm.

Artist Jeffrey Starkes has recently relocated to Seattle, Washington, after living and working in Connecticut for most of his life. Following a long career as an art director and graphic designer, Jeff has developed a new vocation as an emerging abstract artist. Working primarily in oils, his paintings have been featured at numerous art galleries in both solo and group shows.

Jeff’s abstract paintings are inspired by the interactions and battles between our heads and hearts in the course of human affairs. Sometimes hard, cold logic overrules our heartfelt emotions. At other times, our passions overwhelm common sense. Jeff transposes these ever-shifting arguments into a visual language. His paintings depict emotions through color, amorphous shapes and spontaneous brush strokes. The presence of logic is indicated by elements such as geometric shapes, straight lines and hard edges. When all these things interact and compete in one of Jeff’s compositions, we get a glimpse of the art of being human.

Phillip K Jones

My art originates from my home studio near Seattle’s Alki Beach, where I translate the raw, authentic beauty of the Pacific Northwest into vibrant watercolor narratives. I focus on “Northwest Maritime” imagery, capturing not just the visual essence of the Puget Sound region, but the enduring spirit and rich folklore of the local seafaring lifestyle. As a lifelong sailor, my work is informed by an intimate understanding of the water and the vessels that navigate it. I meticulously capture the intricate details of each boat, emphasizing the accurate representation of working conditions and the integrity of the craft. This commitment to realism is achieved through a precise application of color and shading, leveraging the unique properties of the watercolor medium to create unmatched depth and precision.
Exhibitions & Availability
• Galleries & Festivals: My artwork can be viewed at the West Seattle Alki Arts Gallery, the renowned Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival, the West Seattle Art Tour, and other local venues across the Puget Sound region.
• Purchasing: Both framed original works and high-resolution Giclée reproduction prints are available for acquisition.

Mae Aur ARTIST OPEN STUDIO 5pm-8pm

Moon Mode + Human Suit

Mae Aur’s hand cut wood sculptures blur the boundary between painting and object, softness and structure. Using plywood as both surface and skeleton, she cuts, shapes, and paints figures that feel tender yet unyielding. Her characters are often masked. They embrace, pull apart, or quietly confront unseen forces. Her work grapples with love, loss, alienation, connection, and the unknown.
Through exaggerated form, symbolic gesture, and vivid color, Aur transforms rigid wood into something soft, bodily, and animated. Intuition precedes language while playful palettes carry difficult truths.

Born in 1988 in the American South and raised in a Brazilian-Lebanese and British household, Aur has made art her entire life and began creating her signature hand cut wood works in 2010. Her multidisciplinary practice has included metal, clay, costume, and performance, though she now focuses primarily on painted wood sculptures that function as three dimensional paintings.

After years working in somatic healing and massage therapy, she transitioned to a full-time studio practice in January 2025. Her work has been exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions at Marrow Gallery in San Francisco (Moon Mode, 2025) and Glitch Gallery in Memphis (Sweet Creams, 2015), and group exhibitions at Martine Chaisson Gallery in New Orleans and Jay Etkin Gallery in Memphis, as well as the 2021 State of the Art exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, where her work is held in the permanent collection. In 2025 she presented a solo booth with Marrow Gallery at The Armory Show in New York. Aur relocated from Memphis to Seattle in 2021 and works from her studio in West Seattle.
