Nida Ansari INDOORS+RECEPTION 4pm-8pm

Hello, my name is Nida Ansari, a home maker, mom to a toddler and an Artist living in Seattle. I have been creating ever since I can remember. Painting has always given me immense joy and I hope to share this joy with others through my work. I find myself painting landscapes more than ever. I am blessed to be living in the PNW and being surrounded by nature. The extreme contrast in the light here creates bigger contrast to its seasons and this beautiful balance In the light and shadows has been my greatest source of inspiration since I moved here. I have dabbled in different mediums as a part of my curriculum but I love to paint in watercolors. I think it’s a very direct and spontaneous medium and love the challenges it presents to me as an artist. Thank you!

Art for the Tender

In creating my pieces it is my goal to convey compassion and growth through tenderness.  I am constantly inspired by nature and its connection to the human form.  I’ve visited many mediums beginning with charcoal and graphite, and then moving on to acrylic, watercolor, and ink.  In the past year, I’ve dived into more manual work such as linocuts and stamps, focusing on digital illustration.

Deb McCarroll BUSINESS HOURS ONLY (Permanent collection)

Deb McCarroll’s bold work embodies the Northwest’s regional culture. Patterns are created with Seattle’s ubiquitous falling rain. Paper is integrated into wet paint and then set on fire. Metal leaf is frequently woven into scenes and selectively oxidized with acid to add patinas in glittering greens and browns. Local flora and fauna are painted in startling realism and then pared with raw abstract practices.

The art is an abstract resulting from melting Crayola crayons in an oven on top of canvas, wood or copper plate. MEET THE ARTIST:

T. Frick Art – paintings
T. Frick is a self-taught artist and female entrepreneur. She is a licensed Landscape Architect with a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Art has always been a key part of T’s life, even as a young child. But it was her training in the architectural field that advanced her drafting, sketching, and painting style. Growing up, T. could be found wandering the backwoods with one of her resident pups or when indoors, she occupied her time with drawing, painting, or other creative hobbies. Her love of nature and the outdoors led to a career in design. When not working, you’ll typically find her creating — colors, shapes, textures, and movement creatively come to mind, manifesting into abstract, typically landscape, visions. T. will tell you she dreams in trees. No painting is ever planned. She begins with freedom of expression and movement, marking making with no preset destination. Sessions in, a painting will begin to reveal itself and navigate towards its intended vision. T. is currently working in oil and cold wax, acrylic, and mixed media in an abstract, expressive style. Her paintings are typically smaller in size with larger works on the horizon. Commissions at any scale are available upon request. Check out T’s website and join her on an artistic journey through her diverse array of artwork!

FLYING APRON

Vanessa Lanza BUSINESS HOURS ONLY 4pm-5pm

Vanessa Lanza is a Pacific Northwest native and Gig Harbor-based artist who works mainly with nature printing, relief and monotype. She has a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Master’s Degree in International Relations, and has worked in the global and local non-profit arena before returning to her first passion – making art. Vanessa has been creating art in various forms her entire life. It wasn’t until 2019 that she began to focus on printmaking and decided to hone her craft. She is constantly experimenting with new techniques and exploring new ways to communicate her love of nature through art.

A principle theme in Vanessa’s work is the unique and natural landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. After spending many years travelling the world and living in Newark, Boston and Los Angeles, she developed a keen appreciation for the natural beauty of the PNW region and the duty we all have to protect it. Inspired by the late artist Bryan Nash Gil, Vanessa began experimenting with the art of making relief prints from end-grain wood pieces. In particular, she has focused her attention on large scale prints of native trees. These impressively large prints are all inked and pressed by hand in her home studio.  In her smaller collagraph and monotype works, she often incorporates a layer of printed wood grain or some other natural element that can be found in the everyday landscapes of the Pacific Northwest.

Vanessa’s work has been featured at the Ghost Gallery in Seattle, WA, at the Hey Darlin’ Friend (shop) in Gig Harbor, WA, and at the Sparklebarn in Ballard, WA.

Pamela Ware BUSINESS HOUR DISPLAY ONLY, 12PM-5PM

We always take a bit of time off at the beginning of January, after the busy holiday season. For this month’s Art Walk, on Thursday, January 13, we will be open limited hours—from noon to 5:00. We’ll be back to regular hours beginning Tuesday, January 18 for all your Art Walk viewing pleasure!

Please note: Artist is not able to attend.

Artist Statement

As a budding artist I have, for a couple of years now, been exploring the world of acrylic pour painting. It’s a technique used to create paintings with natural flowing patterns. The effect is created by combining acrylic paint with a liquid medium such as Floetrol. This mixture is then poured onto a canvas and spread around by means of tilting or swiping the paints. There are endless ways to explore the process. Sand or glitter can be added to the canvas when it’s drying to create texture. I can incorporate other media onto a finished pour or use the pour as a backdrop for other painting images, as I did with Buffalo and Octopus.

I love the freedom of not knowing what will unfold…watching the shapes and faces appear and how the colors blend in a way I could never anticipate.

Please contact Jan at West Seattle Cellars for purchase details.

Karen Johnson

I’m fascinated with exploring the biodiversity of our world. My goal is for my art to serve as a reminder to us all that the world is full of many wonders, and we should share it wisely. My current work is all created on an iPad Pro, mostly just using a finger or two directly on the screen, sometimes using a stylus for detail work. My graphic design background is evident in my art — I thrive on colors, shapes, patterns and textures. Fluid strokes and a sense of movement are the basis for my style.

Calendars and notecards of my work will be available.
