Snow flurries made an appearance for the first Art Walk of 2024! Despite the colder-than-usual temperatures, Art Walkers were out making good use of their winter gear to stay warm while visiting local artists and businesses.

At the north end of Art Walk, the snow couldn’t stop the party at West Seattle Grounds which hosted both artists and musicians from West Seattle High School. Jazz filled the air and warming drinks flowed in the packed cafe as our community’s young ceramicists, photographers, painters, and digital artists showed off their work. West Seattle artist Anna Sparks’ collection “La Vie en Rose” lit up the space at Wend. Her collage of old Life Magazines “For Hawaii” in support of the Peoples Fund of Maui drew the eye while her Pacific Northwest landscapes grounded the crowd in our local beauty.

Down the street at West Seattle Realty, first-time Art Walk artist John Woodruff’s sleek images provoked pockets of fantastic discussions among the crowd. At once, both organic and technological, the cool-toned pieces seemed to fit the quiet wintry atmosphere outside. Around the corner artist Carla Dreams Nitkey’s second show at Good Society Brewery and Public House brought the heat to the evening’s festivities. The bright oranges and reds contrasted with cool blues in her collection “Spring to Winter: A Spiritual Odyssey” had the patrons at Good Society dreaming of warmer days ahead.

In the Junction, Suzanne Uschold was excited to have been chosen to be on the poster for the Art Walk! She takes her inspiration from places she’s visited or seen. She told us that she felt honored to have been chosen to display at Windermere.

Capers’ two artists are also employees of the shop. Kassie Hennessey uses real feathers as her model to draw what she sees. She currently has some feathers on loan from friends that she will be drawing soon. Diane Bellisario works with veneer, which she only discovered after taking a remote class during COVID lockdowns. She loves the look of the wood colors in her artwork, which is why you don’t see as much colored veneer.

Discovery shop was showing The Little Merle who works with fine jewelry. She has done Art Hop & Shop, which is how she got into the “show her art” world, and has enjoyed doing it since.

Jet City Lab had several artists’ work inside, including the last Art Walk Poster’s own Maggie Sherar (who was not present). Also, inside was teacher Frances who owns The Clay Cauldron on Delridge and was showing student work. Frances has classes available for all abilities and stages and loves to help coordinate the artists for Jet City Lab.

Verity hosted Rodney H King, whose vibrant work is meant to remind you of younger and simpler times. For him, he had incredible memories of Middle School and incorporated things he remembered into his paintings. He hopes to connect back with his former schools and display some of his work in the school to encourage kids to seek their passions.

Rush Hour is the newest addition to the Art Walk and they hosted Betsy and David of digi-prim in a sweet gallery space at the back of their cool sneaker store! The color pop of digi-prim’s prints were a great match for the vibe of the store. Welcoming them to the neighborhood were some local friends who brought homemade cookies and snacks to help celebrate.

Doll Parts always has a fun, funky, grown-up – Candyland vibe. They featured a young artist, Paloma Gulassa, whose mom was there in support, and they were having a great time with Doll Parts co-owner Alyssa.

Michael A. Knutson’s stunning paintings were on display at Viscon Cellars where a number of guests were enjoying wine with their art. The cozy wine tasting was a welcome stop on a cold and snowy Art Walk night. Inner Space Designs was hopping! A lively crowd assembled to check out Anamika Venkatesh’s vibrant, architecturally inspired paintings. The bright colors provided a spark of joy and a wonderful contrast to the winter night sky.

Our team of volunteer Art Walk photographers did a wonderful job of capturing the ambiance of the evening as well as the art and artists. Thank you, Carole, Chris, Jill, Meagan, Mia, and Molly. We couldn’t do this without you! If you weren’t able to come out, we hope you take a moment to check out photos of the receptions below or on social media. Or, better yet, come see the shows yourself. Most of the artwork featured will be up all month long, so do find time to visit these venues.

We want to thank all our generous partners for the support they bring to the West Seattle Art Walk – Northwest Art and Frame, Verity Credit UnionCanna West Seattle, Quail Park, Easy Street Records, West Seattle Realty, Southpaw Barbershop, our media partner West Seattle Blog and our printing partner Sky Printing.
